John Melhuish Strudwick (1849-1937) In the golden days. John Melhuish Strudwick was a Pre-Raphaelite painter of the Victorian era. He was inspired by Edward Burne-Jones and also worked as his studio assistant in the 1870s. Another source of inspiration was the lapidary technique from the Italian quattrocento. His paintings were done in a blend of Renaissance and medieval styles with meticulous attention to detail especially in his treatment of draperies and accessories leading to a very small output.
